Today, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau met with Nunavut Premier Joe Savikataaq to discuss shared priorities. The Prime Minister reaffirmed his commitment to work collaboratively with Premier Savikataaq and the Government of Nunavut.

The Prime Minister affirmed the Government of Canada’s commitment to continued support for Canada’s Arctic and northern regions. He also thanked the Premier for his ongoing collaboration on key territorial initiatives, including the advancement of Nunavut devolution and the Nunavut Recovery Centre.

The Prime Minister and the Premier affirmed their shared commitment to ongoing bilateral work on the implementation of the Arctic and Northern Policy Framework, in addition to other shared priorities – including health, sustainable economic growth, climate change mitigation, infrastructure, and housing – to meet Nunavut’s unique needs and realities.

They agreed to continue to collaborate on these important priorities, and looked forward to the next First Ministers’ Meeting.
