Today, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau spoke with the Prime Minister of Sweden Stefan Löfven about recent developments related to the Ukraine International Airlines tragedy in Iran.

The Prime Ministers shared their sincere sympathies for the terrible losses of Canadian, Swedish and other citizens in the tragedy. They emphasized their commitment to close collaboration among the countries impacted, including through the International Coordination and Response Group for families of victims of PS752, which will be convened by Canada later this week in London, United Kingdom.

The two leaders underlined the imperative of a thorough, credible, and transparent investigation into this incident. They discussed the need for international reflection on steps that can be taken to prevent such a tragic accident from happening again.

On the situation in the Middle East, Prime Minister Trudeau and Prime Minister Löfven reaffirmed the importance of de-escalation to reduce tensions and promote stability in the region.  They also underlined the continued need to maintain the fight against Daesh.
