Today, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau spoke with His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Emir of Qatar.

The Emir expressed his deepest condolences for the loss of life resulting from the Ukraine International Airlines tragedy.  The two leaders discussed the imperative of a credible and transparent investigation and the importance of responding to the needs and wishes of the families of the victims.

The Prime Minister and the Emir also discussed the situation in the Middle East, with both leaders agreeing that de-escalation and dialogue are essential to ensuring security and stability in Iraq and the wider region.

Prime Minister Trudeau and the Emir agreed to remain in touch and to continue working together on their shared objective of promoting regional security.
