Today, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau spoke with His Majesty King Abdullah II bin Al-Hussein of Jordan.
King Abdullah expressed his deepest condolences for the loss of Canadian lives resulting from the Ukraine International Airlines tragedy. The Prime Minister stressed that Canada’s highest priorities are ensuring a full, credible and transparent investigation and supporting the families of the victims.
Prime Minister Trudeau and King Abdullah reviewed recent developments in the Middle East and agreed on the continued need for dialogue and de-escalation as the path forward for peace and stability in the region. They also discussed the importance of the anti-Daesh coalition and the work of the NATO training mission in Iraq to build institutional and security capacity.
The two leaders agreed to remain in touch and to continue working together with partners to ensure a prosperous and secure region.
