PM Trudeau meets with His Highness Prime Minister Sheikh Sabah Khalid Al-Hamad Al-Sabah

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau today met with Prime Minister Sheikh Sabah during the Prime Minister’s visit to Kuwait to strengthen bilateral relations and meet with and thank Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) troops stationed in Kuwait.

The two prime ministers welcomed the long-standing friendship between Canada and Kuwait and the positive expansion of commercial relations, particularly in education. The Prime Minister thanked the Government of Kuwait for its support of our CAF personnel stationed in Kuwait as part of Operation IMPACT.

The two leaders also discussed the situation in the immediate region and the broader Middle East. They agreed on the need for de-escalation and dialogue to defuse current tensions.

The visit of the Prime Minister builds on recent high level engagement between the two countries, including the visit of Governor General Julie Payette in January 2019 and the visits of Minister of National Defence Harjit Sajjan in December 2019 and January 2020.
