Today, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau spoke with the Alternate Prime Minister of Israel, Benny Gantz.

Prime Minister Trudeau congratulated Alternate Prime Minister Gantz on forming a national unity government following the March 2 elections. 

Alternate Prime Minister Gantz offered his condolences for the recent loss of Canadian lives following the Nova Scotia shooting and the CH-148 Cyclone helicopter and Snowbird accidents.

Prime Minister Trudeau expressed Canada’s steadfast support for Israel as a friend and ally. The two leaders looked forward to working together to strengthen the bilateral relationship between Canada and Israel. They also spoke about the importance of promoting peace and security in the region, with Prime Minister Trudeau reaffirming Canada’s longstanding support for a two-state solution based on a negotiated agreement between the parties.

Prime Minister Trudeau and Alternate Prime Minister Gantz discussed the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, highlighting the need for continued international cooperation. 

COVID-19 is a rapidly evolving global challenge. The Government of Canada is working closely with local, provincial, territorial, and international partners to minimize its health, economic, and social impacts in Canada and around the world.
