Prime Minister Justin Trudeau speaks with President of Angola João Lourenço

Today, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau spoke with the President of Angola, João Lourenço, to discuss the latest developments in the COVID-19 pandemic.

Prime Minister Trudeau expressed solidarity with President Lourenço and the people of Angola as they take the necessary measures to contain COVID‑19 and respond to its health, social, and economic impacts. 

Prime Minister Trudeau affirmed his commitment to work closely with President Lourenço and other African leaders to strengthen regional and global partnerships and institutions to build a fairer, more inclusive world for all.

The two leaders spoke about strengthening relations between Canada and Angola, including through connections between Portuguese-speaking people in both countries.

COVID-19 is a rapidly evolving global challenge. The Government of Canada is working closely with local, provincial, territorial, and international partners to minimize its health, economic, and social impacts in Canada and around the world.
