Today, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau spoke with New Brunswick Premier Blaine Higgs to discuss the COVID-19 pandemic and the rising number of cases in New Brunswick, and other shared priorities.

The Prime Minister emphasized that the Government of Canada remains ready to respond to any requests from the Government of New Brunswick, including supplying additional rapid testing kits. The leaders also discussed vaccine registration and the Canada-U.S. land border.

The Prime Minister and Premier also spoke of the importance of continuing to increase vaccination rates throughout the province. They agreed that vaccination is the most effective tool against COVID-19 and encouraged everyone in New Brunswick and all Canadians to get vaccinated.

The Prime Minister and Premier also talked about the shortage of health care workers in the province, the importance of immigration, the federal government’s commitment to work with provinces and territories to make training for health care positions more accessible, business support programs, and infrastructure. The two leaders also discussed climate change, including the potential for clean energy in Atlantic Canada, and the urgency of reaching an agreement on early learning and child care that would respond to the needs of parents in New Brunswick.
