Today, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau spoke with the Prime Minister of Ethiopia, Abiy Ahmed, about the ongoing conflict in northern Ethiopia.
The Prime Minister reaffirmed Canada’s strong and ongoing commitment to supporting a peaceful resolution to the conflict, and encouraged an inclusive approach to national dialogue and reconciliation among all parties.
Prime Minister Trudeau underscored the importance of ensuring unhindered access to and delivery of humanitarian assistance for those affected by the conflict. He also expressed concern over the impact of recent air strikes, and emphasized the need to protect civilians, save lives, and ensure human rights are respected.
The two leaders agreed to continue to stay in close touch regarding the situation.
