Today, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau met with the President of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Council, Salvatore Sciacchitano, and the Secretary General of ICAO, Juan Carlos Salazar.

During the meeting, Prime Minister Trudeau underscored Canada’s commitment to ICAO and the United Nations, noting its dedication to serving as a world-class host of ICAO’s headquarters in Montréal, Quebec. He underscored Canada’s pride as a founding member of ICAO as well as our engagement in addressing future challenges to aviation.

The Prime Minister recognized ICAO’s 80th anniversary this year and highlighted ICAO’s role in upholding and defending the Chicago Convention and the rules-based international order. The leaders discussed the importance of ensuring a safe, secure, sustainable, and accessible global civil aviation system, including the peaceful settlement of aviation-related disputes.

Prime Minister Trudeau thanked President Sciacchitano and Secretary General Salazar for their commitment and dedication to international civil aviation. The three leaders agreed to continue working together to ensure a successful 42nd Session of the ICAO Assembly, to be held in Montréal in the fall of 2025.
