Today, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau spoke with Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas.

Prime Minister Trudeau discussed political and security developments in the region with President Abbas. The President thanked the Prime Minister for Canada’s recently announced assistance to the Palestinian people and efforts to ensure equitable and efficient access to vaccines through the COVAX Facility.

Prime Minister Trudeau underscored his firm belief in the right of Palestinians and Israelis to live with dignity, without fear, and with their human rights respected. The Prime Minister reaffirmed Canada’s commitment to the goal of a comprehensive, just, and lasting peace in the Middle East, including the creation of a Palestinian state living side-by-side in peace and security with Israel.
