Prime Minister Justin Trudeau met today with Venezuelan human rights activist Ms. Lilian Tintori in Ottawa to discuss the deteriorating situation in Venezuela.
The Prime Minister repeated Canada’s call on the Venezuelan Government to restore the constitutional order, including the release of all political prisoners and to set an electoral calendar without delay. He also stressed the need for dialogue and respect for the democratic rights of Venezuelan citizens, as enshrined in the charter of the Organization of American States and the Inter-American Democratic Charter.
Prime Minister Trudeau committed Canada to continue working with hemispheric partners to find a solution to the crisis.
