Today, Hindu, Jain, Sikh, and Buddhist communities in Canada and around the world will celebrate the Festival of Lights.

Diwali represents the triumph of light over darkness, good over evil, right over wrong, and the power of freedom, hope, and knowledge.

This is a time for families and friends to come together to pray, exchange gifts, share meals, and light diyas in the spirit of hope.

My friends, our country is strong because of the many cultures and communities that live here.

And Diwali is an opportunity for us all to celebrate your rich culture, your contributions to our country, and the values that bring us together.
