Today, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau spoke with the Premier of British Columbia, David Eby, about the serious wildfire situation in British Columbia and what the Government of Canada is doing to address the needs of British Columbians in this challenging time. They were joined by the President of the King’s Privy Council for Canada and Minister of Emergency Preparedness and Minister responsible for the Pacific Economic Development Agency of Canada, Harjit S. Sajjan, and British Columbia’s Minister of Emergency Management and Climate Readiness, Bowinn Ma.
The Prime Minister reaffirmed the Government of Canada’s commitment to provide ongoing assistance to British Columbia and affected communities to address immediate needs. They highlighted that the Government of Canada will also be there to support communities’ recovery. The two leaders reaffirmed their commitment to fully support First Nations communities that have been impacted.
The Prime Minister noted that he convened the Incident Response Group with ministers and senior officials today to discuss wildfires and extreme weather across the country. He reiterated the importance of making additional resources available to British Columbia to ensure the safety of those impacted by the wildfires. Prime Minister Trudeau and Premier Eby agreed to remain in contact as the situation evolves.
