Today, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau spoke with the President-elect of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, to congratulate her on her victory in Mexico’s presidential elections. He also applauded the people of Mexico for electing their first woman President.
The Prime Minister and the President-elect discussed areas of common interest and the strong bilateral relations between Canada and Mexico. They underscored the importance of growing our economies and delivering fairness for every generation through the Canada-United States-Mexico Agreement. They also discussed key priorities like fighting climate change, strengthening international peace and security, and promoting gender equality.
The leaders underscored the rich cultural connections, deep people-to-people ties, and the strong trade and investment relationship between the two countries. They committed to working closely to strengthen North American competitiveness, and the Prime Minister raised opportunities for collaboration on global issues.
The two leaders expressed a desire to further strengthen the partnership between Canada and Mexico after President-elect Claudia Sheinbaum takes office and expressed their desire to meet in person soon.
