Suze Youance is a civil engineer with more than 25 years of experience in engineering, teaching, and research. She is currently a project officer at the Montréal-based multidisciplinary engineering firm FNX-INNOV.

Ms. Youance was previously an engineer-designer for the Quebec engineering-consulting firm CIMA+. She also hosted two television programs on engineering and sustainable development that aired on Savoir media until 2023, and she has contributed to radio shows, podcasts, and conferences. She is passionate about education and has been a lecturer and research assistant at the École de technologie supérieure (ÉTS) de Montréal since 2008.

Ms. Youance is originally from Haiti and began her career in the field of Canadian cooperation in that country, where she worked for eleven years, first as an engineer and then in increasingly senior roles in the areas of infrastructure and the environment. She immigrated to Canada in 2006.

Ms. Youance has volunteered to promote women in engineering, in addition to her work as Chair of the Board of Directors of the Bureau de la communauté haïtienne de Montréal. She is also a member of the Board of Directors of the Société d’habitation et de développement de Montréal, a member of the Board of Directors of the Mains utiles organization, the President of the Association des parents of the Collège Sainte-Marcelline, and the President of the Scientific Council of the UNESCO Chair “Women and Science for Development” in Haiti. She was also a member of the Board of Directors of the Institut des sciences, des technologies et des études avancées d’Haïti and of the Board of Directors of the Centre de la petite enfance TechnofloS at the ÉTS.

In recognition of her career and contributions, Ms. Youance received the Casimir Gzowski gold medal from the Canadian Society for Civil Engineering and the Mathieu Da Costa Award from the Black Coalition of Quebec. She was also appointed ÉTS Ambassador for research and innovation.

Ms. Youance graduated in civil engineering from the Université d’État d’Haïti and holds a Master’s degree and PhD in Construction Engineering from the ÉTS. She is a member of the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec.
