The Honourable Mary J. L. Gleason was appointed to the Federal Court in 2011, the Court Martial Appeal Court of Canada in 2013, and the Federal Court of Appeal in 2015.
Chief Justice Gleason is fluently bilingual. Prior to her appointment to the Bench, she was at Norton Rose LLP (formerly Ogilvy Renault LLP). She joined the firm as an associate in 1986 and became a partner in 1993, practising labour and employment law. She held several management positions within the firm, including co-managing partner of its Ottawa office and Ottawa Chair of its Employment and Labour Group.
Chief Justice Gleason received a Bachelor of Arts in History (Honours) from the University of Ottawa in 1981 and a Bachelor of Laws from Dalhousie University in 1984. She was admitted to the Bar of Ontario in 1986.
