The Honourable Susan Cooper was appointed to the Nunavut Court of Justice in 2009.
Chief Justice Cooper was previously an associate at the law firm Cooper Johnson in Yellowknife, Northwest Territories, from 1988 to 1992. In the years that followed, she practised as a sole practitioner in Yellowknife and Iqaluit, Nunavut, where she became a partner at Chandler & Cooper in 1998. Her practice focused on criminal, family, civil, child protection, municipal, administrative, employment, and parliamentary law. During this time, she was also appointed as the first Law Clerk to the Legislative Assembly of Nunavut.
Chief Justice Cooper holds a Bachelor of Science in Forestry and a Bachelor of Laws, both from the University of Alberta. She was called to the Northwest Territories Bar in 1988, the Alberta Bar in 1990, and the Nunavut Bar in 1999.
