Prime Minister Trudeau delivers remarks at the inauguration of the new Québec Armoury in Québec City
Dear friends, it’s a pleasure to be here with you this morning to celebrate this great homecoming. It’s been 10 years now since flames engulfed your home, this place steeped in history and memories for many of you. Located right in the heart of Québec, the armoury is not just an iconic site for the members of the oldest Francophone unit in Canada, but for all Quebecers. From Courcelette to Kandahar, this regiment, your regiment represents our country all over the world, from one generation to the next, you truly make us proud.
Homecoming day is finally here, and judging by the looks of it, it was worth the wait. An architectural masterpiece, the new Quebec City Armoury integrates elements of tradition and maternity.
The Voltigeurs will enjoy brand new quarters, while the public service will now occupy the new west wing. That said, the new armoury will preserve some of the most emblematic features, such as the distinctive architecture of the north façade. I know it was a long wait, but I think we can all be proud of the result.
On behalf of all Canadians, I want to thank you for all that you do every single day for this country. You represent the very best of what it means to be Canadian and it’s truly a pleasure to celebrate this day with you.
I hope you’ll take advantage of this day to celebrate the start of a new chapter in your long history. Once again, thank you for your always warm welcome, it was an honour to be here.
Thank you everybody.
