Jenica Atwin was first elected as the Member of Parliament for Fredericton in 2019, becoming the first woman to represent Fredericton in the House of Commons. She has been a member of various parliamentary committees, including the Standing Joint Committee for the Scrutiny of Regulations, and currently serves as the Chair of the Standing Committee on Indigenous and Northern Affairs.

Ms. Atwin is a strong advocate for her community and is passionate about making progress on important issues impacting people across Canada, including climate change, poverty and homelessness, mental health and addictions, and reconciliation with Indigenous Peoples.

She has long been a champion for education and youth, in particular for First Nations communities. Before entering politics, she worked as a Cultural Transition Coordinator at Fredericton High School and as an Education Consultant and Researcher for the First Nations Education Initiative, in New Brunswick.

Ms. Atwin holds a Bachelor of Arts in Canadian History and a Master’s degree in Education from the University of New Brunswick. In 2021, she was selected as the Rising Star among Maclean’s 12th annual Parliamentarians of the Year.

Ms. Atwin grew up in and around Oromocto and Fredericton, New Brunswick. She is married and the mother of two boys.
