Prime Minister Trudeau delivers a message on Diwali and Bandi Chhor Divas
Hello everyone.
Today, Hindu, Sikh, Jain, and Buddhist communities in Canada and around the world will celebrate Diwali and Bandi Chhor Divas.
It’s a time to gather with friends and family to share meals, light diyas, and celebrate the victory of light over darkness, knowledge over ignorance, good over evil, and hope over despair.
For all of us, Diwali is a chance to celebrate our shared values as Canadians, like inclusion, pluralism, and respect for our differences.
As we mark 150 years of Confederation in 2017, it’s a chance to appreciate the many cultures and communities that make our country such a great place to live.
Canadians of Hindu, Sikh, Jain, and Buddhist faiths help make Canada strong, inclusive, and prosperous.
This year, we also celebrate a very special collaboration between Canada Post and India Post to create new stamps recognizing Diwali.
On behalf of our family, Sophie and I wish all those celebrating a happy Diwali and a happy Bandi Chhor Divas.
