Prime Minister Trudeau delivers a message on Passover
Tonight at sundown, Jewish communities in Canada and around the world will celebrate the start of Passover by sitting down for the Seder.
Families and loved ones will gather to read from the Haggadah, sing the four questions, hide the afikoman and recline just a little in celebration of freedom.
Passover commemorates the liberation of the Israelites from slavery in ancient Egypt.
It’s the story of the triumph of freedom over bondage and of the enduring strength of the Jewish people.
For all of us, the Passover story is a call to action and a reminder that we all have the power to be a voice for justice.
Passover is also an opportunity to celebrate Canada’s Jewish community. Every day, Canadians of Jewish heritage make significant contributions to our country and continue to shape Canada and our world for the better.
On behalf of our family, Sophie and I wish health, joy and happiness to everyone celebrating.
Chag Pesach Sameach.
