Prime Minister Trudeau visits Algoma Steel Inc.
Thank you very much. It’s great to be back in the Sault. It’s great to be back at Algoma. As Terry had pointed out, we had a visit here where I committed that we were going to stand by and support our workers in the steel and aluminum industry across the country, and we were able to do that. But I really have to highlight Terry’s leadership as co-chair of the Steel Caucus in the government, in Ottawa, really making sure that we were doing everything we could to support these workers and their families through what has been a difficult year.
But, as I said, one of the things that became very, very clear to the Americans was the extent to which Canadians were united, firm and steadfast, and I wanted to thank them for their strength in projecting that we expected that there would be a full lift and that’s exactly what we got. So, it’s been a real pleasure to be here.
Of course, it is a huge team effort, whether it was industry leaders or municipal leaders, like Christian Provenzano, a great mayor here who’s been a really strong advocate as well and working connections with the United States. It’s great to see Christian here, although if he runs out in the middle of the press conference it’s because Kiley is expecting their third yesterday and the cell phone’s on. So, we all are wishing him the very best.
But this is what happens when people work together, when communities stay strong, and why we stand up for what is right and in a way that is firm and respectful; we get the right kinds of outcomes. So, it’s great to be back here today.
