30th anniversary of the 1989 École Polytechnique Montréal tragedy
Thirty years ago tonight, 14 women were murdered by a man because they were women. Thirty years later, we still have a lot of work to do to fight misogyny, gender-based violence, hatred and discrimination.
We must all pledge ourselves today, and every day, to fight. Fight for the respect owed to every single human being.
We are going to continue to fight gender-based violence together. We are going to strengthen controls on firearms by eliminating and …

… prohibiting military-style assault weapons.

We have a clear consensus at the House of Commons; we have a clear consensus across the country.
We will continue to move forward together. We will raise our daughters to be anything they want to be, and to be free from fear. We will raise our sons to be allies, and to be feminists. And we will keep fighting every day for a better world.
Thank you.
