This week, Tamil communities in Canada and around the world will come together to celebrate Thai Pongal, the Tamil Harvest Festival.

Thai Pongal is a time to give thanks and show gratitude for the many gifts of the harvest.

It’s a chance to gather with friends and family to share Pongal, and celebrate the start of the new year.

In Canada, January also marks Tamil Heritage Month.

It’s an opportunity to recognize the strong roots of Canada’s Tamil community, and celebrate the many important contributions Tamil Canadians have made and continue to make to our country.

Like so many communities across the country, Tamil Canadians have made Canada a more prosperous, open and inclusive country.

On behalf of our family, Sophie and I wish everyone celebrating a joyful festival and a happy Tamil Heritage Month.
