Prime Minister Trudeau's message on la Fête nationale du Québec and Saint-Jean-Baptiste Day
Hello everyone, and bonne Fête nationale du Québec!
Today, we celebrate Quebecers.
Across the province, we all share a unique culture and heritage.
And what distinguishes us as Quebecers also makes our country strong.
Quebecers’ contributions to Canada are not new.
Quebec has always been a part of our country’s history and success.
And, as Quebecers, no matter where we are in the world, our pride and our attachment to our home province is part of our identity.
Now, unfortunately, we can’t celebrate today like we usually do at the Place des festivals in Montréal, on the Plains of Abraham in Québec City, or at a party with all our family and friends.
But this doesn’t mean we can’t celebrate our love for Quebec in other ways.
And as we celebrate Fête nationale, we also celebrate Saint-Jean-Baptiste Day.
Together with Francophones from across the country, we celebrate our beautiful language and traditions.
Outside Quebec, Francophone communities are keeping our French language and distinct culture alive and well.
And our government has always been – and will continue to be – their ally.
My friends, today is a time to celebrate. So no matter what you do, I hope you find a way to celebrate our roots and heritage.
Bonne Fête nationale du Québec and happy Saint-Jean-Baptiste Day!
