Prime Minister Trudeau's message on Vaisakhi
Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa, Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh.
Hello everyone, and happy Vaisakhi.
Today, millions of people in Canada and around the world mark Vaisakhi.
The holiest day in the Sikh calendar, Vaisakhi is a moment to celebrate the creation of the Khalsa by Guru Gobind Singh Ji.
It’s a time to come together with family and friends at Gurdwaras and Khalsa Day celebrations.
And it’s a time to recognize the values at the heart of Sikhism.
Values like equality, community, generosity, honesty, and Seva – Selfless Service to others.
April is also Sikh Heritage Month, during which Canadians come together to pay tribute to the Sikh community for all the contributions it makes to our country.
Canada is proud to be home to one of the largest Sikh populations in the world.
And all across Canada, Sikh Canadians make our communities better places to live.
I have fond memories of visiting Vaisakhi celebrations in Toronto and Vancouver and celebrating with the Sikh community on the Hill here in Ottawa.
We all long for more in-person events, and as restrictions begin to ease across the country, I share your excitement in spending more holidays and celebrations together.
From my family to yours, Sophie and I wish you and your loved ones a happy, joyful and safe Vaisakhi.
