Advancing gender equality and strengthening trade ties while in New York City
Hello everyone.
We’ve had a productive couple of days in New York talking with leaders in government, philanthropy, culture, and more, about the issues that matter to Canada and to the world. Yesterday I was at the UN where alongside Prime Minister Mia Mottley of Barbados, I co-chaired a conversation with the sustainable development goals advocates. We talked about how we can amp up our efforts in a world where so much is going on. I also spoke at Global Citizen Now, alongside Canada’s ambassador for Women, Peace and Security, Jaqueline O’Neill. We discussed gender equality, what Canada is doing to amplify women’s voices around the world, including in conflict zones, and what we are doing to protect women’s rights. This morning, I spoke with the council on foreign relations about how Canada and the U.S. can work together to strengthen liberal democracy at home and around the world, make sure that our decision-making reflects our values at every level, and build economies that work for everyone.
