Prime Minister Justin Trudeau Speaks with Prime Minister David Cameron of the United Kingdom

The Prime Minister spoke today with Prime Minister David Cameron of the United Kingdom and Northern Ireland following the murder yesterday of John Ridsdel by terrorists in the Philippines. 

Prime Minister Cameron expressed his condolences for to the family of Mr. Ridsdel and to the Canadian people.

The Prime Ministers agreed on the principle on not paying ransoms in cases such as this.  Paying ransoms would only serve to perpetuate violence against our citizens.  Both supported the aim of reinforcing this principle internationally.

They undertook to continue to work together to promote the safety of our citizens around the world.
