Prime Minister Justin Trudeau spoke today with Donald Tusk, President of the European Council. 

President Tusk confirmed that the Council of the EU had approved the texts of the Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) and the Strategic Partnership Agreement (SPA) and the European Union is now in a position to sign both agreements. 

President Tusk invited Prime Minister Trudeau to sign the CETA and the SPA on October 30, 2016, at the Canada-European Union (EU) Summit in Brussels.  The Prime Minister accepted the President's invitation.  This summit will mark a historic step in Canada-EU relations.
