Prime Minister Trudeau meets with Vietnam’s top leaders

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau met today with Vietnam’s top leaders: Prime Minister Nguyễn Xuân Phúc, General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Nguyễn Phú Trọng, Chair of the National Assembly of Vietnam Nguyễn Thị Kim Ngân, President Trần Đại Quang.

In these meetings, Prime Minister Trudeau offered condolences for the destruction in Vietnam caused by Typhoon Damrey. Canada and Vietnam agreed on a comprehensive partnership that will strengthen bilateral cooperation in a range of areas including: political and diplomatic; trade and investment; development cooperation; defence and security; cultural and academic exchange; science, technology and innovation; and people-to-people ties.  Prime Minister Trudeau  also stressed Canada's interest in promoting human rights and discussed other areas of mutual interest including trade, regional security and gender equality. He offered his congratulations on Vietnam’s hosting of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum in 2017 so far and wished the host a successful APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting in Da Nang on November 10-11.
