Ottawa, Ontario - April 12, 2018

Today, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau spoke by phone with the President-Elect of Costa Rica, Carlos Alvarado Quesada.

Prime Minister Trudeau congratulated the President-Elect on his electoral victory, and indicated that he looks forward to continued close collaboration between both countries. 

Prime Minister Trudeau and President-Elect Alvarado reiterated the strong people-to-people ties between Canada and Costa Rica and discussed issues of mutual interest including climate change, gender equality, progressive trade, and diversity and inclusion.

The leaders also discussed regional issues, including the situation in Venezuela.
