Prime Minister Justin Trudeau met yesterday with the Prime Minister of Bangladesh, Sheikh Hasina, following the G7 Summit in Charlevoix.

Thanking the Prime Minister for her participation at the G7 to protect oceans and the environment, the two leaders further discussed opportunities to improve the resilience of coastal communities and to reduce plastic waste.

The Prime Minister thanked Bangladesh for its support to the Rohingya and those displaced by the conflict in Myanmar, also expressing Canada’s ongoing commitment to promote a peaceful solution and to address humanitarian needs. The leaders affirmed the need for strengthened international action to promote stability, accountability and the conditions for the safe, voluntary and dignified resettlement of persons displaced by the Myanmar conflict.

The two leaders looked forward to continued, strong bilateral relations and ongoing collaboration on issues of mutual concern.
