Yesterday, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau hosted a working visit by the Prime Minister of Vietnam, Nguyễn Xuân Phúc, following the G7 Summit in Charlevoix.
Celebrating the 45th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Canada and Vietnam, the prime ministers emphasized the strong people-to-people ties and the enduring relationship between Canada and Vietnam.
The prime ministers also discussed a wide range of shared priorities relating to global and regional peace and security, development cooperation to achieve the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals, promote gender equality, and protect LGBTQ2 rights. The Prime Minister thanked the Prime Minister of Vietnam for his participation at the G7 Summit on the protection of oceans and the environment, reaffirming the need for strengthened action to promote the resilience of coastal communities, improve the health of river and marine environments, and to reduce plastic waste.
The leaders also affirmed their shared objective of bringing the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership into force expeditiously.
