Today, Prime Minister Trudeau met with Christine Lagarde, Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund. They reaffirmed the importance of the G20 as a venue to engage in conversations on job creation, long-term economic growth and multilateralism. They also discussed their shared commitment to pursuing innovative financing, including through investment in sustainable infrastructure.

Prime Minister Trudeau and Mme Lagarde emphasized the importance of building resilience for small island developing states (SIDS). They also noted the important progress that has been made on the development of resilient debt-instruments, which support faster economic recovery and stability in the international financial system, and other initiatives to benefit the communities and people in SIDS and coastal states.
