The Honourable Jocelyne Gagné

The Honourable Jocelyne Gagné was appointed to the Federal Court on May 31, 2012. Since her appointment, she has established a reputation among her peers as a widely respected, hard-working, thoughtful, and collegial jurist. Justice Gagné is fluently bilingual and regularly hears matters in both official languages. In addition to her work on the Federal Court, she was cross-appointed to the Court Martial Appeal Court of Canada in March 2013 and to the Competition Tribunal in February 2017.

Prior to becoming a judge, Justice Gagné spent over 20 years as a member of the Quebec Bar, practicing as a litigator with two large Montreal firms. She maintained a varied practice, with experience in different areas of civil and commercial litigation, including intellectual property law. While in practice, Justice Gagné served as an executive member of the Canadian Bar Association Business Law Section (2007-2012) and president of the CBA Commercial Litigation Committee (2009-2011). She has been a speaker at numerous conferences and has volunteered with several charitable organizations.

Born in Kingston, Ontario, Justice Gagné studied economics at the Université du Québec à Montréal and holds a Bachelor of Laws from the Université de Montréal. She was called to the Quebec Bar in 1990.
