PM Trudeau meets with President Moon Jae-in

Today, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau met with President Moon Jae-in of South Korea.

Prime Minister Trudeau and President Moon discussed the important growth in trade and jobs from the Canada-Korea Free Trade Agreement (CKFTA). The Prime Minister also welcomed the recent establishment of artificial intelligence (AI) research and developments labs by Korean companies in Canada, and the two leaders discussed the responsible development of AI technologies.

The two leaders agreed on the importance of maintaining UN Security Council sanctions on North Korea. They expressed their hope for a resumption of denuclearization talks.

The Prime Minister and the President agreed to continue their close cooperation, particularly with respect to climate change and the protection of oceans from plastic pollution. They welcomed the launch earlier today of EMPOWER, the new private sector alliance for the Empowerment and Progression of Women’s Economic Representation.
