The Honourable Marie-Anne Paquette

The Honourable Marie-Anne Paquette was appointed a puisne judge of the Superior Court of Québec for the district of Montréal on August 6, 2010 and has been the coordinating judge of the Commercial Chamber since 2020. Prior to her appointment, Chief Justice Paquette was a partner at Woods, and had practised law with McCarthy Tétrault. She clerked for the Right Honourable Beverly McLachlin while she was Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Canada, and worked as a part-time law clerk for the Honourable Morris Fish while he served on the Court of Appeal of Quebec.

During her career as a lawyer, Chief Justice Paquette developed an expertise in civil litigation and taught courses on civil procedure for the Quebec Bar. She is the author and co-author of many articles and was a frequent lecturer.

Chief Justice Paquette was born in Mirabel, Quebec. She earned her Bachelor of Laws (LL.B. – Honours) degree from the Université de Montréal in 1993 and was called to the Quebec Bar in 1994.
