The Honourable R. Lester Jesudason was appointed a judge of the Supreme Court of Nova Scotia (Family Division) in 2015. Prior to his appointment to the Bench, Associate Chief Justice Jesudason was at the firm Blois, Nickerson & Bryson LLP in Halifax, which he joined as an associate in 1997. He then became a partner in 2002, practising civil litigation, administrative, employment, and human rights law. He was appointed King’s Counsel in 2014, and since 2020 he has been the judicial nominee of the Chief Justice of Nova Scotia for the Federal Judicial Advisory Committee for Nova Scotia.
Associate Chief Justice Jesudason was the Chair of the Nova Scotia Police Review Board from 2007 to 2014 and was its Vice-Chair from 2003 to 2007. He was a member of several committees for both the Canadian Bar Association (Nova Scotia Branch) and the Nova Scotia Barristers' Society. As both a lawyer and a judge, Associate Chief Justice Jesudason has engaged in initiatives to promote diversity and equity in the legal profession and broader community.
Associate Chief Justice Jesudason received a Bachelor of Science (Honours) from Acadia University in 1993 and a Bachelor of Laws from Dalhousie University in 1996. He was admitted to the Nova Scotia Bar in 1997.
