Today, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau spoke with the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, to discuss recent developments related to the Ukraine International Airlines tragedy in Iran.
The Prime Minister thanked President Zelenskyy for the support that Ukraine has provided Canada, including to Canadian officials currently in Tehran. They welcomed the close cooperation between Canada and Ukraine across multiple levels in response to this tragedy. The Prime Minister and the President underscored the need for a full, complete and credible investigation with international participation and agreed on the top priority of support for the families of the victims.
The two leaders expressed the need for concerted international cooperation and looked forward to the meeting of the International Coordination and Response Group convened by Canada in London, United Kingdom, on January 16.
The Prime Minister and the President will continue to work together to seek the answers, accountability and justice that all those affected by this tragedy deserve.
