Today, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau met with the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, on the margins of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) Summit in Vilnius, Lithuania.
The Prime Minister and the President reinforced their unwavering support for Ukraine. They agreed to continue working closely together, for as long as it takes, to assist Ukraine as it continues to resist Russia’s brutal and unjustifiable aggression.
The leaders also discussed the record-setting wildfire season in Canada. Prime Minister Trudeau thanked the European Union (EU) for its support in fighting Canadian wildfires through the EU Civil Protection Mechanism.
Prime Minister Trudeau and President von der Leyen reaffirmed the importance of the close relationship between Canada and the EU. The leaders discussed critical minerals and responding to economic coercion.
The two leaders agreed to stay in close contact and work together to advance shared priorities.
