Daryl Fridhandler is a corporate lawyer, arbitrator, mediator, and businessman with over 40 years of legal experience.
Mr. Fridhandler was called to the Alberta Bar in 1984. He has spent his entire legal career practising with the Calgary firm Burnet, Duckworth & Palmer LLP, where he became a partner in 1990. His practice spans commercial transactions, mergers and acquisitions, commercial arbitration and mediation, as well as private equity, securities, and corporate law. In addition to his work for the firm, he is a recognized leader in education and business, a champion for cultural institutions, and a published author.
Mr. Fridhandler has served on numerous boards and been a trusted legal advisor and steward for a range of private and public companies, non-profits, and projects. He is currently a director on the boards of ENMAX Corporation and of several private corporations. He has previously served as Chair of the Alberta Ballet Company, Chair of Calgary Economic Development, Chair of the EPCOR Centre for the Performing Arts (now Arts Commons), Governor of the Alberta College of Art and Design (now the Alberta University of the Arts), Governor of Mount Royal University, Vice-Chair of the Calgary Police Commission, and Chair of the Calgary Public Library, among other roles. He is also a member of various associations, including the Law Society of Alberta, the Institute of Corporate Directors, the ADR Institute of Canada, the ADR Institute of Alberta, the Canadian Bar Association, and the Calgary Bar Association.
Mr. Fridhandler is a King’s Counsel and the recipient of several awards and recognitions, including the Scarlet Key Award from McGill University, the Alberta Centennial Medal, and the Lexology Client Choice Award.
Mr. Fridhandler holds a Bachelor of Arts from McGill University, a Bachelor of Laws from Dalhousie University, and a Master of Laws from New York University.
