Prime Minister Rutte shared his sincere condolences for the Canadian and other lives lost in the Ukraine International Airlines crash and offered Dutch support in responding to this tragic disaster. The prime ministers stressed the importance of a thorough investigation into the cause of the crash. Prime Minister Rutte also shared the experience of the Netherlands following the crash of Malaysian Airlines flight 17 in 2014.
Discussing the situation in Iraq and the region, Prime Minister Trudeau and Prime Minister Rutte emphasized that de-escalation is crucial. They expressed the need to maintain focus on the fight against Daesh and the role of coalition forces in this regard. They also agreed on the importance of stability and security in Iraq, as well as the important contribution made by the NATO mission in Iraq. The two leaders underlined their commitment to efforts to prevent nuclear proliferation.
