Prime Minister Trudeau's message on Passover
Hello everyone.
Tonight at sundown, Jewish communities across the country and around the world will celebrate the beginning of Passover.
A story of strength and resilience in the face of hardship, Passover is about the liberation of the Israelites from slavery in ancient Egypt.
This is a time when families gather around the Seder table to eat matzah and maror, read texts from the Haggadah and recite the four questions.
It is also a time to celebrate the triumph of freedom, the power of hope and the perseverance of the Jewish people.
Throughout history, Jewish people have prevailed in the face of persecution. And sadly, today, Jewish communities are again facing a disturbing rise in antisemitic attacks and crimes. This hate is unacceptable. Period. It has no place here in Canada or anywhere else around the world.
As we reflect on the Passover story and mark the beginning of spring, let’s celebrate our differences. Let’s enjoy the time we spend with our loved ones. And let’s continue to work together to build a better future for all Canadians.
On behalf of my family, I wish peace, health, and joy to everyone celebrating Passover.
Chag Pesach Sameach!
